Shyama Prasad Mukherji College was established in 1969. It has an excellent infrastructure to guide and train students for further life opportunities. With an updated library, student activity centers for sports and other extra-curricular interactions, and a staff of 110 well-qualified teachers, this is one of the best colleges in Delhi University. The college is constantly trying to improve teacher-student interaction with innovative ways under COHSSIP, for which it has been selected by the UGC. The college also encourages students' involvement in creative activities relating to culture, sports, NCC and NSS. The college also offers various student groups like Women's Guidance Cell, Gandhian-Study Circle, Eco Club along with vocational training.

The college library has a collection of 52,000 books and 110 periodicals including a reading wing where various newspapers and journals are available for students' consultation.
The collegeâ€™s vibrant life is one of its kind. Students' creativity can find its scope and expression in various extra curricular activities. Some of these societies are- Hindi Literary Society (Sahityki), History Association, Political Science Association, Economics Association and the Planning Forum, English Literary Soceity, Sanskrit Parishad, Commerce Association, Education Association, Maths Association, Philosphy Association, Music Society, Food Technology Society. These societies are open for the students of the individual departments or courses. However, there are some open societies where a student can enter according to one's interest and potential. These are-Hindi and English Dramatic Society, Hindi and English Debating Society, Hobbies Society, Magazine Society, katha Club, Garden Society and Ecology Club.
Sports-The college has excellent facilities for sports such as Kho-Kho, Basketball, volleyball and Badminton. The college believes in cultivating discipline and rigor through hardwork and training. It is no coincidence that college team has won many prizes in various competitions.
Women Guidance Cell
The women guidance cell is one of the assests of the college which helps the young leaders to steer their ways into a professional world of skills and potential. Admission procedure for Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College:
The centralized forms are acceptable in the college. The procedure is carried out between 1st June-15th of June. The trials of various Sports and ECAS begin after 15th of June.
The forms and prospectus are available from 1st to 15th June every year. The college release information about the entrance tests for B.A. (Hons.) in English and in B.A.(Hons.) in Music. One can also get the important information regarding the college admissions, such as various entrance tests, auditions etc. through the college website
